If you're like me, I try and find anyway possible to save myself money. Selling a home and moving can be a costly process, but there are ways to save money. Wondering where to find cheap boxes, packing supplies, and movers? Let me help!
On average it costs about $1,170 if you are moving instate and anywhere around $5,600 if you are going out of state. But moving, doesn't have to cost this much. Moving boxes will add to your moving expenses, but they don't always have to. A liquor store is one of the first places you should check for free boxes. Usually these boxes are thicker than most boxes, making your move safer. Another place I recommend looking for free boxes is on next door neighbor. If you don't already have this app, I recommend you get it. You can find tons of free items as well as items you can buy. If either of these two options don't work, check out cheapcheapmovingboxes.com.
If you are looking for free packing supplies, Freecycle.org is the place to go. They help people find free packing supplies that have been recycled. If you are considering using bubble wrap, I recommend using blankets, towels, sweaters, and other soft items instead. This is a safe and easy way to save a buck.
Cheap moving trucks are the last piece to the puzzle. A U-Haul or ZipCar van are two cheap and easy ways to move your stuff. You can also ship items with Amtrak express shipping. They ship your first 100 pounds anywhere in the United States for a flat rate of $67 with 57 cents each additional pound. They have a limit of 500 pounds per person and you have to pack and transport to Amtrak yourself.
